New York, (SUNA) – Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Al-Harith Idris, said equating the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) with militias, mercenaries, and foreign fighters undermines justice, stressing that treating the parties to the conflict equally does not constitute justice.
Speaking during a UN Security Council session, Idris said imposing unilateral policies on the war in Sudan in the form of UN sanctions, without transparent and thorough discussion, would constitute a denial of justice. He called for preserving multilateral diplomatic channels.
Idris questioned what measures the international community had taken to deter what he described as acts of genocide and violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia. He also questioned how the international community had assessed the use of weapons of Western origin, identified the parties supplying such weapons to the militia, and analyzed the chain of custody or transfer of their possession.
