Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Professor Ismat Gurashi said the Sudanese Agricultural Bank has announced a package of measures to support farmers, including the adoption of a risk-sharing formula under which financial risks are borne equally by the bank and farmers on a 50-50 basis.

The measures are intended to ease financing burdens and safeguard the production process, in addition to strengthening agricultural extension programmes and increasing productivity.

Speaking during a meeting on Thursday in Kosti with officials and farmers from White Nile State, the Minister expressed hope that the current summer agricultural season would yield outstanding results that contribute to increasing production and improving the economic returns of the agricultural sector.

He stressed the importance of coordination between government institutions and farmers to achieve the desired objectives.

For his part, White Nile State Wali Lieutenant General Gamar Al-Din Mohamed Fadl Al-Mawla expressed optimism about the outcomes of the meeting and affirmed the state government's commitment to following up on the implementation of its recommendations in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation to ensure the success of the agricultural season.

Meanwhile, General Manager of the Sudanese Agricultural Bank Dr. Salah Abdel Rahim announced the bank's readiness to finance various categories of farmers, with particular focus on irrigated projects and productive and cooperative associations through micro- and medium-financing programmes, in addition to financing horticultural activities, livestock production and solar energy projects.

A number of farmers expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the meeting, noting that the new policies, including the adoption of the Salam financing formula and the reduction of the down payment for acquiring agricultural tractors from 25 per cent to 15 per cent, as well as intensified agricultural extension and pest-control programmes, would contribute to boosting production and ensuring a successful agricultural season.
