Dar Hamar Emergency Room Warns of Humanitarian Disaster in West Kordofan

Dar Hamar Emergency Room

The Dar Hamar Emergency Room has warned of a humanitarian disaster and famine threatening residents of several localities in West Kordofan State amid drought, scarce rainfall and deteriorating living conditions.

The emergency room said the drought and lack of rainfall had resulted in the complete destruction of crops, while looting and theft by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia had deprived residents of their savings and property.

It said the price of a malwa (a traditional local measure of grain) of milled sorghum had risen to SDG 35,000, while a 90-kg sack had exceeded SDG 1 million due to transport restrictions and a lack of supplies.

It added that hunger and disease had affected more than 90 percent of the population, with rising deaths among children and the elderly amid a complete absence of humanitarian aid.
