Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohieddin Salem, discussed efforts for economic recovery, reconstruction, and the provision of basic services to support voluntary returns with the Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The minister outlined areas of cooperation that Sudan hopes the office will undertake, including the health and agricultural sectors, voluntary return projects and sustainable solutions for internally displaced persons, women’s economic empowerment, and the utilization of engineering expertise in industrial recovery and productive housing.
For his part, the Executive Director affirmed the office’s cooperation with national authorities on strategic projects in safe states and its commitment to placing Sudan on its agenda during meetings with partners and donor countries.
The meeting concluded with an invitation to the Executive Director to visit Sudan to discuss opportunities for cooperation with the relevant authorities.
