The United Nations Fact-Finding Mission said it had documented a pattern of detention followed by coercion and extortion carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.
In a report, the mission stated that families were forced to pay large sums of money in exchange for the release of detained relatives, with payments reaching as much as US$40,000 in some cases.
