Audio Recording of RSF Commander Points to Deteriorating Situation in West Darfur

Major Idris Hassan

An audio recording obtained by Nabaa-Al-Sudan from intelligence sources within the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia features Major General Idris Hassan, the militia's West Darfur Sector commander, describing a sharp deterioration in the group's situation.

The recording reflects deep frustration and escalating internal recriminations, coinciding with the rapid advance of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Joint Forces toward the West Darfur state capital, El Geneina.

Idris Hassan acknowledges a major military setback for the militia on the state's northern front, describing the loss of Kulbus as “a devastating blow” to the militia's plans in the region after its forces had held the area for more than two years. He attributes the setback to what he describes as a “clear conspiracy” and internal collusion that led to the fragmentation of the militia's forces.

The recording also indicates that he fears El Geneina could face a similar fate, warning that “the conspiracy that occurred in Kulbus will happen in El Geneina” unless urgent action is taken.

The recording exposes deep divisions among the military and tribal factions allied with the RSF in West Darfur, with the speaker levelling direct accusations of betrayal against several figures.
He calls for an investigation into the fate of 270 fully equipped military vehicles allocated to the state, accusing commanders of concealing the vehicles and using them for private interests and commercial activities instead of deploying them to the front lines.

The speaker also launches a public attack on several senior figures, including the RSF commander's adviser Ambeilo, sector commander Abdulrahman Ankoleeb, intelligence chief Mohamed Al-Tashadi, and traditional leader Amir Masar, holding them responsible for undermining social cohesion and for weakening or eliminating the influence of former commander Mohamed Ismail “Kizo.”

The recording conveys a strong sense of alarm over the imminent advance of the Sudanese Armed Forces, with the speaker calling for the mobilization of young men from the northern areas and Dar Al-Reeh. He threatens to disarm and summarily execute any fighter attempting to withdraw.
“The country is now a matter of honor… Anyone who wants to retreat will be stripped of his weapon and killed in the north.”

In what the report portrays as evidence of dwindling military resources and declining morale, the speaker urges militia members to head to the northern front by any means available, saying, “Even if all you have is a knife, go to the northern front,” in an apparent effort to halt the advance of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Joint Forces toward El Geneina.
