President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, on Sunday received at the Republican Palace a delegation from the African Union Peace and Security Council, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salem.
Ambassador Mohamed Khalid, Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the African Union, Chairperson of the Council for August, and head of the delegation, described the meeting as fruitful, saying it addressed key issues of peace, security, and stability in Sudan. He praised Al-Burhan’s commitment to peace and stability.
Khalid reaffirmed the Council’s firm position on respecting Sudan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national unity, as well as supporting the Sudanese people’s aspirations for peace, stability, development, and democratic governance.
The delegation expressed deep concern over the continuation of the war and its heavy toll in lives, infrastructure, and humanitarian conditions. Khalid stressed that lasting peace requires dialogue, national reconciliation, and a comprehensive political settlement that reflects the aspirations of the Sudanese people.
He welcomed steps related to the peace initiative and the government’s return to Khartoum, describing it as an important step toward restoring state institutions, basic services, public confidence, and the democratic transition.
He called for a more inclusive transitional process and national consensus leading to a constitutional order through free and fair elections.
Khalid also underscored the African Union’s central role in the Sudan peace process and commended the AU-led Quintet’s efforts.
He reiterated the Council’s rejection of external interference in Sudan’s internal affairs and of any attempts to establish parallel entities or governments that undermine the country’s unity and sovereignty.
He also welcomed moves to reopen the African Union Liaison Office in Khartoum and expressed hope that this would strengthen the Union’s engagement with Sudan and support its return to active participation in the AU.
