Khartoum, (Nabaa Sudan) — President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan met with British Special Envoy for Sudan Richard Crowder, in the presence of Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Muawiya Othman Khalid.
The British envoy said in a statement that he was pleased to visit Sudan following the restoration of Khartoum, pointing to the systematic destruction inflicted on many vital and service facilities as a result of the war, in addition to the displacement of thousands of civilians to neighboring countries, which has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis and made it the worst humanitarian catastrophe in the world.
He explained that the report of the International Fact-Finding Mission painted a grim picture of violations of international and humanitarian law, as well as external intervention in the crisis through the recruitment of foreign mercenaries.
Crowder added that the priority should be to stop the war, safeguard lives and end the humanitarian suffering, noting that this could be achieved through a Sudanese-led and Sudanese-owned dialogue based on an inclusive and transparent political process that reflects the views of Sudanese people inside and outside the country.
The British envoy expressed his country’s welcome for initiatives by genuine stakeholders, commending the guarantees put forward by the Sudanese government regarding those who could participate in the dialogue.
He noted that his country would participate in the UN General Assembly meetings in New York in the coming days, adding that the Sudan crisis would receive the attention of world leaders.
