KHARTOUM (Nabaa Sudan) – President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, has issued a decree to re-establish the Sudanese Petroleum Corporation, which was dissolved in 2019, and reconstitute the Petroleum Council under his chairmanship. The move is part of the state’s efforts to reorganize the energy sector and activate the Petroleum Resources Act.
Al-Burhan also issued a decree appointing retired navy Rear Admiral Dr. Ismail Osman Al-Hussein Abushouk as Secretary-General of the Sudanese Petroleum Corporation.
According to the Media Directorate of the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, the Petroleum Council comprises the ministers of petroleum, finance and justice, the Director of the General Intelligence Service, the President of the National Investment Authority, and a limited number of petroleum experts.
The corporation is entrusted with strategic responsibilities, including developing petroleum resources, promoting exploration and production activities, meeting the country’s needs for various petroleum products, and securing strategic reserves.
The Sudanese Petroleum Corporation was established under the 1998 Petroleum Resources Act as a public entity with independent legal personality, headquartered in Khartoum and operating under the authority of the Petroleum Council. It was dissolved in 2019.
The re-establishment of the corporation aims to unify the management of the petroleum sector and energy resources and improve the efficiency of petroleum resource utilization, thereby contributing to the support of the national economy.
