The Cabinet held an emergency meeting in Khartoum on Thursday, chaired by Prime Minister Professor Kamil Idris.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism Dr. Graham Abdal-Gadir said in a press statement that the Cabinet discussed the “Light and Water for All Sudan” program. He said the meeting agreed that, within 12 months, solar energy would become the source of electricity and water across Sudanese communities.
He added that the government does not promise that every home in Sudan will have electricity 24 hours a day, but guarantees that every major population center will have access to electricity and a water supply network.
The Culture Undersecretary said the Cabinet also discussed the “Clean Khartoum” project and a proposal to rehabilitate and develop public parks and youth centers in Khartoum State as natural recreational spaces for families and communities.
He said the Cabinet directed the Wali of Khartoum State to establish partnerships and twinning arrangements with the capitals of friendly and brotherly countries in order to benefit from their experiences in reconstruction and rebuilding. It also directed the intensification of media programs to promote and develop a culture of cleanliness in society and to involve families, youth and city committees in cleanliness initiatives and social reconstruction.
Dr. Abdal-Gadir added that the Cabinet discussed the rehabilitation of roads in the capital and the states, noting that it directed the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport to submit an implementation plan in this regard. He said the project aims to support economic recovery and reconstruction, increase exports, improve connectivity between the states and attract investment.
He further said the Cabinet discussed currency trading, economic sabotage and the measures taken in this regard. The Cabinet directed the formation of a committee chaired by the Minister of Defense and comprising a number of ministers and relevant authorities to examine all matters that affect and harm the national economy.
