Violent clashes broke out Tuesday evening between groups from the Habbaniyah and Rizeigat communities following the pursuit of a group of thieves who were said to have fled toward the Buram area of South Darfur.
According to the information received, the situation escalated after a group of Habbaniyah refused to hand over the wanted individuals, leading to an armed confrontation between the two sides. The clashes left 12 Habbaniyah and 10 Rizeigat dead.
Tensions remain high in the area amid fears that the clashes could expand as mobilization and calls for support continue on both sides, threatening further escalation unless efforts to contain the situation succeed.
