Democratic Bloc: We Want a Different Dialogue to Address Sudan’s ‎Root Crises

Democratic Bloc

Khartoum, (Nabaa Sudan) — Omar Osman Abu Shuaiba, a leading ‎figure in the Forces of Freedom and Change – Democratic Bloc, ‎affirmed that Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue is the path toward reaching ‎solutions to the crisis, stressing that it must be comprehensive and ‎include all Sudanese people and the various regions and segments of ‎society.‎

Speaking after the Democratic Bloc delegation met with the Sudanese-‎Sudanese Dialogue Preparatory Committee at Al-Salam Rotana Hotel ‎in Khartoum on Tuesday, Abu Shuaiba said the meeting was held at ‎the committee’s official invitation and was its first meeting with ‎political forces. He explained that the meeting addressed issues ‎related to the dialogue, the committee’s tasks and mandate, as well as ‎a number of questions and observations raised by the bloc.‎

He added that the two sides agreed to continue their meetings over ‎the coming days to reach a clear vision for a genuine Sudanese-‎Sudanese dialogue that includes all Sudanese, noting that some issues ‎still require further understanding, particularly those related to ‎preparations for the dialogue, its priorities and agenda.‎

Abu Shuaiba said the main point of agreement was that dialogue is ‎the means through which solutions to the crisis can be produced, and ‎that Sudanese-Sudanese consensus requires the participation of ‎everyone. He said the Democratic Bloc’s position is clear on the need ‎for the dialogue to include all segments and regions of Sudanese ‎society, including Darfur, Kordofan and others.‎

He pointed out that Sudan has witnessed numerous dialogues and ‎agreements since 1948, but they failed to achieve the desired ‎objectives or address the root causes of Sudan’s crises. He said the ‎anticipated dialogue should therefore be different in its nature, ‎objectives and participants and should genuinely reflect the ‎inclusiveness of all components of Sudanese society.‎

The delegation of the Dialogue Preparatory Committee included ‎lawyer Nabil Adeeb, the committee’s official spokesperson Eng. Osman ‎Mirghani, Ibrahim Ahmed Ibrahim and Suleiman Al-Amin.‎

The Democratic Bloc delegation was headed by Governor of Darfur ‎Region and head of the bloc’s Political Sector Minni Arko Minawi, and ‎included Chairman of the Democratic Alliance for Social Justice ‎Mubarak Ardol, the bloc’s official spokesperson Dr. Nidal Hisham, Head ‎of Civil Society Organizations Salah Dar Masa, Salah Jamous, leading ‎figure in the Democratic Unionist Party – Revolutionary Front Omar ‎Osman Abu Shuaiba, Secretary-General of the Revolutionary ‎Awakening Council Abdel-Rahman Hassan, and others.‎

The Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue Preparatory Initiative was launched ‎on August 30, 2026, amid a response from political, civil and ‎community forces, and with a welcome from the African Union, the ‎League of Arab States and a number of regional and international ‎countries and organizations.‎

The initiative seeks to create a conducive environment for dialogue ‎and build trust among Sudanese parties, facilitate initial consultations ‎on the conditions, methodology and guarantees of the dialogue, and ‎pave the way for an inclusive dialogue to be held inside Sudan and ‎driven by Sudanese will.‎

The committee emphasizes that its mandate is limited to preparation, ‎facilitation, listening to the positions of the parties and bridging their ‎differences, without imposing a predetermined agenda. It has also ‎proposed guarantees to protect participants and ensure the freedoms ‎necessary for expression, secure the venues of consultations and ‎dialogue, and prevent the use of state authority to influence its ‎outcomes.‎
