Cairo (Nabaa Sudan) – Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam has announced the formation of an Egyptian-Sudanese committee to assess the damage caused by the Ethiopian dam and seek compensation. He also reaffirmed efforts to strengthen water cooperation between Egypt and Sudan through new measures aimed at moving from coordination to practical implementation on the ground.
In a post on his personal Facebook account, Sewilam explained that the cooperation includes establishing a joint committee to assess the adverse impacts of the illegal Ethiopian dam on Egypt and Sudan, identify the damage resulting from Ethiopia’s unilateral actions, and pursue the compensation owed by the Ethiopian side.
He added that Egyptian-Sudanese cooperation also includes the implementation of development projects, the rehabilitation of the Jebel Aulia Dam, and the resumption of the joint mission's activities at Lake Nasser, which had been suspended since 2013.
The Egyptian minister further pointed to enhanced coordination between the two countries in dam management and data exchange, as well as continued efforts to achieve consensus among all Nile Basin countries.
