The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport announced that the Hope Committee for Voluntary Return has signed an agreement with the Nile Valley River Transport Authority to operate regular passenger services for returning Sudanese nationals aboard river vessels between Egypt’s High Dam Port and Sudan’s Wadi Halfa Port, in a move that further strengthens Sudanese-Egyptian cooperation.

The agreement aims to revive river navigation between the two countries and provide a safe and cost-effective mode of transportation, while also supporting trade and tourism flows and easing pressure on overland transport routes.

Under the first phase of the initiative, the vessels Sinai and Saq Al-Na'am will be deployed as part of a broader plan to rehabilitate and modernize the Nile Valley River Transport Authority’s fleet. The initiative is expected to support voluntary return programmes and deepen bilateral cooperation between Sudan and Egypt.
