Khartoum, (Nabaa Sudan) – Commander Al-Nour Ahmed Adam, known as “Al-Nour Al-Qubba,” said that around 70 percent of the members of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to his estimates, stand with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), but fear leaving the force due to concerns that they could face execution or torture.
Al-Nour Al-Qubba addressed the issue of defections within the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) during a seminar held Thursday at the Omdurman Cultural Center, saying that a growing number of the force’s members and commanders had chosen to return to what he described as the “bosom of the homeland.”
He added that several commanders had defected from the RSF since his own return, saying that the number of those who had joined the ranks of the Sudanese Armed Forces was “greater than the forces” that remain under his command, in his words.
Al-Nour Al-Qubba accused the RSF of pursuing members attempting to defect, saying that those who leave the force face, according to him, the risk of execution or imprisonment.
Speaking about the next military phase, Al-Nour Al-Qubba announced that his forces are ready to move to the fighting fronts in Darfur and Kordofan and operate alongside the Sudanese Armed Forces and the forces supporting them.
He said the objective is to regain control of areas in the two regions currently controlled by the Rapid Support Forces militia.
Al-Nour Al-Qubba linked the outbreak of the war to a decision taken by RSF Commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, “Hemedti,” accusing foreign countries of supporting the war with the aim of “tearing the country apart.”
The seminar was held under the slogan “Return to the Bosom of the Homeland: The Path to Peace,” with the participation of the Kordofan and Darfur Media Professionals Association and the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), and under the patronage of Governor of Darfur Region Minni Arko Minawi and the supervision of Minister of Culture, Information, Tourism and Antiquities Khalid Al-Eisir, and South Darfur State Wali Bashir Abdullah Mursal.
