The Horn of Africa Studies and Research Centre in Port Sudan and Türkiye’s SETA Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research have reached an agreement to strengthen research and academic cooperation on issues related to the Horn of Africa and Red Sea security.
The centre received a delegation from SETA, and the two sides discussed mechanisms for enhancing research and academic partnerships, with a focus on the Horn of Africa, Red Sea security, and the implications of regional geopolitical developments.
The two parties agreed to implement joint programmes covering studies, research, and training, in addition to exchanging memoranda of understanding and scientific expertise and expanding cooperation with Turkish universities and think tanks.
The SETA delegation underscored the importance of partnerships among research institutions in supporting decision-makers and expressed its readiness to publish research papers and studies produced by the Horn of Africa Studies and Research Centre.
During the visit, the Turkish delegation met with the Centre’s Secretary-General, Dr. Fatima Al-Aqib, in Port Sudan to discuss coordination on joint programmes concerning the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea in light of potential geopolitical shifts in the region.
The delegation concluded its visit by reviewing the centre’s experience and reaffirming the importance of strengthening cooperation, exchanging expertise, and expanding collaboration in training, research, and studies of mutual interest.
