Khartoum, (Nabaa Sudan) – Interior Minister Lieutenant General (Police) Babiker Samra Mustafa said Sudanese forces were making significant advances, affirming that the end of the war was near and stressing his rejection of an armistice because, he said, its objectives did not serve Sudan’s interests. He made the remarks in an interview with the “News Maker” program on RT.
He said the Jeddah Agreement was appropriate for Sudan and that the country was seeking to implement it, while rejecting calls to ban arms sales to Sudan and affirming that his country had the right to purchase weapons from any country it chose.
Samra affirmed that Sudanese forces were fighting for Sudan and its people against the division of the country, stressing that the country was moving toward the end of the war.
He added that Egypt stood with the Sudanese people and provided significant humanitarian support, noting that the flow of weapons across the border was a serious matter and that the government knew who was behind and supporting the war.
Interior Minister said Sudanese-Russian relations were strong and coordination between the two countries continued, noting that infrastructure had been severely damaged by the war and that Sudan was now in the reconstruction phase and needed Russian support.
He added that the police had returned to their headquarters in Khartoum and that all militias had been expelled from the capital, while institutions had begun operating. He said efforts to clear the remnants of war were continuing, adding that there were no uncontrolled weapons in Khartoum and that the authorities were preparing conditions for the return of displaced people.
Samra said 60 percent of those displaced from Khartoum had returned to their homes, noting that plans were in place to restore services. He also pointed to Sudan’s continued participation in the Conference on Countering Extremist Ideology due to its experience with militia terrorism.
He described Sudan’s exclusion from attendance at the United Nations as a dangerous precedent, reaffirmed his rejection of an armistice, and said the forces were making significant advances.
