Kassala State is moving to establish specialized state-level mechanisms to combat human trafficking, given its geographic and border characteristics, as part of an action plan presented by the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking during a meeting between a delegation from the National Human Rights Mechanism and Kassala State Wali Al-Sadig Mohamed Al-Azrag.
The committee stressed the need to implement intensive programs to build the capacities of personnel from the state’s judicial, security, and executive agencies, strengthen coordination among them, intensify public awareness campaigns, and provide protection and support to victims in accordance with international standards and national laws.
The delegation of the National Human Rights Mechanism, headed by the mechanism’s Rapporteur Yassir Sayed Ahmed Al-Hassan, discussed with the Kassala State Wali arrangements for holding state-level workshops to prepare Sudan’s fourth national report for the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism.
The Wali affirmed his full support for the workshop’s outcomes and the efforts of the Legal Administration, stressing his commitment to the rule of law and to enforcing its provisions through the state’s institutions.
