Local sources in South Darfur told Nabaa Sudan that Abbas Mohammed Ali, the mayor of Al-Barnu, along with several civilians detained with him, have been subjected to continuous torture and humiliation inside Dugris Prison west of Nyala.
The sources indicated that the mayor was arrested on 8 April 2025 without any charges. One detainee reportedly died as a result of torture, while others are suffering from critical health conditions. The sources also reported overcrowded cells, lack of sufficient food and water, prohibition of prayer, and ongoing torture using electricity and physical beatings. These practices, they say, are systematic and aimed at humiliating civilians.
