Minawi: Ending Sudan War Requires More Than a Ceasefire

Minawai

Khartoum, (Nabaa Sudan) – Darfur Region Governor Minni Arko ‎Minawi affirmed that ending the war in Sudan cannot be achieved ‎through a ceasefire alone, stressing the need for any sustainable peace ‎to be linked to a clear process of accountability, justice, and the ‎restoration of rights to their rightful owners.‎

Minnawi said, in an article published on his official page, that the post-‎war phase must be based on rebuilding the state on the principles of ‎the rule of law and equal citizenship, and addressing the consequences ‎of genocide, ethnic cleansing, and forced displacement.‎

He pointed to the need for independent and transparent investigations ‎into the violations witnessed in Darfur, criticizing the UAE’s support for ‎the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, as well as the European Union’s ‎cooperation with Sudanese forces on combating irregular migration.‎

Minnawi outlined eight conditions for sustainable peace, foremost ‎among them holding those responsible for war crimes and genocide ‎accountable, ensuring justice for victims and compensating them, ‎addressing land and hawakeer issues (traditional tribal land and ‎customary land rights), guaranteeing the voluntary return of internally ‎displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees, reforming the security sector, ‎and preventing the formation of forces parallel to the state.‎
