Washington, (Nabaa Sudan) – Sudan Liberation Movement leader Minni Arko Minawi said a limited group of people, which he estimated at no more than 40, had played what he described as “dirty” roles under the banners of political and professional organizations, presenting themselves as representatives of civilians.
Speaking at a gathering of Sudanese nationals in Washington, Minawi praised what he described as the unity of Sudanese in the United States around Sudan, saying that “the world that loves freedom is with us,” and adding that Sudanese “will continue” to defend their country.
Minawi said his position was based on what he described as the need for self-defense amid the continuation of the war, adding, “If we want to surrender our lives, this is not the time.” He continued that Sudan is facing parties possessing advanced weapons, stressing that what he called “the world is with us” represents support for the Sudanese.
The Sudan Liberation Movement leader cited events in several areas that had witnessed fighting, violence, and displacement, saying, “The evidence is what happened in Al-Gezira, the evidence is what happened in El-Geneina, the evidence is what happened in Zamzam, and the evidence is what happened in El-Fashir.”
Minawi questioned the fate of residents who had been forced to leave their areas, asking, “Where are our people now? Where are the Sudanese now?” He then pointed to the conditions of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees and what he described as the suffering of Sudanese in displacement camps.
Minawi linked the restoration of Sudanese dignity to the country’s ability to control its resources, saying that the path to returning residents to their areas and restoring their dignity lies in possessing Sudan’s resources, from money, oil, and gas to human resources.
He stressed that these resources, in his view, constitute the foundation for rebuilding the country and enabling Sudanese to regain their lives and rights after years of war.
