Minister of Culture, Information, and Tourism, Khalid Al-Eisir, described the statements made by the leader of the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) regarding a “humanitarian truce” as nothing more than a transparent political manoeuvre, sharply contradicting the grim reality of the atrocities committed by the militia on the ground.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Al-Eisir stated that the militia, “stripped of all human values, besieged defenceless civilians, starved them, targeted them with drones, and committed horrific crimes in the cities of El-Fashir and Bara,” cannot be taken seriously when talking about a truce.
He added that the statement is merely an attempt to polish the militia’s image before the international community, recalling past experiences such as the Jeddah truce agreements, which the RSF exploited to move military supplies and secure gains at the expense of civilians, while the Sudanese army fully adhered to the agreements it signed.
Al-Eisir stressed that the international community must prioritize the suffering of the Sudanese people over any political or propaganda considerations and pressure the militia to implement the roadmap submitted to the United Nations, as the most effective means to end the cycle of suffering and achieve a lasting truce that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people.
