North Darfur Governor Arrives in Port Sudan After Perilous Overland Journey

Wali (Governor) of North Darfur, Hafiz Bakhit, has arrived in Port Sudan, Red Sea State, after leaving El-Fashir at the end of October via overland routes.
His departure from the city was described as a dangerous venture, given the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) attacks and their control over most of the main roads leading to and from El-Fashir.
According to Ultra Sudan sources, Wali Bakhit traveled long distances through rough terrain before reaching Port Sudan, where he intends to immediately begin addressing the critical humanitarian conditions facing North Darfur and its capital, El-Fashir.
He was received by members of the North Darfur community in Port Sudan, where he pledged to work toward rebuilding the war-ravaged state and emphasized the importance of resilience in the face of current challenges.
Reports from international organizations indicate that nearly 81,000 people have been displaced from El-Fashir amid worsening security conditions due to the RSF’s militia spread along the overland routes between El-Fashir and Tawila Locality.
