The Egyptian Consul in Sudan, Ambassador Ahmed Yousuf, revealed that since the first day of the war, they had insisted on adding the phrase “Embassy of Egypt in Khartoum (temporarily operating from Port Sudan)” to all official and internal correspondence, reflecting their firm conviction of an inevitable return to the capital.
Speaking at an honoring ceremony held in his honor by the Red Sea State Government on Thursday night to mark the end of his term in Sudan, the Egyptian consul expressed his pride in the time he had spent among the people of eastern Sudan, affirming that he considers himself one of the Beja people.
He added: “I wore your traditional attire, ate your food, drank your coffee, and attended many occasions with you. Whenever I am among you, I feel that I am among my own people,” citing traditional local expressions of welcome such as “Dahayo Jeeb Afi” and “Esinkai Jeeb Afi.”
