Om Badir, (Nabaa Sudan) – The Sudan Doctors Network condemned a circulating video purportedly documenting the execution of more than 25 civilians in the Om Badir area of North Kordofan State by individuals affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.
In a statement, the network said the gravity of the incident was compounded by indications that the killings were carried out on ethnic grounds and under pretexts involving accusations that the victims supported or sided with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).
It said the extrajudicial killing of civilians constitutes a grave crime and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights principles, noting that targeting people on the basis of their ethnic or social affiliation, or because of unsubstantiated accusations, threatens social peace and fuels hate speech and violence.
The network added that the perpetrators’ documentation of their actions and their publication or boasting about them reflects a disturbing level of disregard for civilian lives and the principles of accountability and justice. It called for urgent international action to halt repeated violations against civilians in conflict areas.
The Sudan Doctors Network called on the United Nations, human rights organizations, and relevant international mechanisms to launch an independent and transparent investigation into the incident, identify those responsible, and announce the findings, in order to ensure that perpetrators of grave violations against civilians do not escape punishment and to secure justice for the victims.
