Finance Minister Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim said the war waged by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia has severely undermined Sudan’s economic capabilities, causing loss of life and mass displacement, while systematically destroying infrastructure and the national economy.
Speaking at a meeting with the African Union (AU) delegation in Khartoum, Gebreil said the militia deliberately targeted essential services, particularly power stations, with the intent of depriving citizens of electricity.
He also criticized sanctions imposed on Sudan as ineffective and contrary to the public interest, calling on the AU to review its position and lift the suspension of Sudan’s membership.
Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Ahmed Modawi Musa outlined the extensive damage inflicted on higher education and scientific research infrastructure, saying attacks on universities, academics, scientists, and students have undermined Sudan’s development and could have repercussions across Africa.
He called on the AU to support Sudanese educational institutions and help rebuild the sector.
Minister of Minerals Nour Al-Dayim Taha urged the AU to take a clear position against external interference in Sudan and called for an end to foreign support and arms supplies to the RSF militia.
He warned that the Sudanese crisis could have wider repercussions across Africa and welcomed the AU’s rejection of parallel governmental entities.
Taha reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a just peace that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people, while criticizing political forces he said had aligned themselves with the Al-Dagalo gang and contributed to prolonging the conflict.
