On the sidelines of the extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held on Saturday, 10 January, in Jeddah, Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohy-Eddin Salim met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty. The meeting addressed developments in Sudan, ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, and coordination on regional matters of mutual concern.
Minister Salim reaffirmed the deep historical and fraternal ties between the two countries, commending Egypt’s commitment to supporting Sudan during this critical period, including upholding its unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty, and national institutions.
Minister Abdel-Aaty emphasized the need for concerted regional and international efforts to reach a humanitarian truce and achieve a comprehensive ceasefire. He stressed the importance of providing safe havens and ensuring unhindered humanitarian aid, condemning serious violations against civilians in El-Fashir and North Kordofan.
The two ministers also discussed regional developments, with Egypt condemning Israel’s recognition of the so-called “Somaliland,” describing it as illegal under international law and a violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
On the water security front, both ministers underscored their unified stance as Nile Basin countries, stressing the importance of joint coordination to defend the water rights and interests of the Egyptian and Sudanese peoples, while rejecting unilateral actions that violate international law in the Eastern Nile Basin.
