The Embassy of the Republic of Sudan in Austria held a seminar on January 13 at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna, in partnership with the Austrian Institute for European and Security Policy (AIES), titled “Sudan: Key to Africa’s Security – Humanitarian Disaster, Recovery, and Reconstruction.”

Sudan’s Ambassador to Austria, Magdi Ahmed Mufaddal, outlined the internal and external challenges facing the Government of Hope, emphasizing the humanitarian crisis caused by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and its impact on stability. He noted that the government’s return to Khartoum followed the restoration of security and the resumption of state institutions.

The Ambassador called on the international community to pressure the rebels and their backers, increase humanitarian aid, and support recovery and reconstruction. He highlighted Austria’s potential role in knowledge exchange, business facilitation, capacity building, and supporting education and agriculture.

The seminar was presented by Ambassador Dr. Martin Eichtinger, Director of the Diplomatic Academy, and moderated by Dr. Werner Fasslabend, former Austrian Defense Minister and AIES President. Dr. Fasslabend stressed Sudan’s pivotal role in African security and the benefits of stability and unity for regional and international interests.

The event brought together diplomats, researchers, security experts, and members of the Sudanese community in Austria.
