Khartoum (Nabaa Sudan) – The Ministry of Health on Thursday concluded the activities of Pink October 2026, the breast cancer awareness campaign, at its headquarters on Nile Street.
The event was organized by the General Directorate of Primary Health Care, the Non-Communicable Diseases Department and the National Cancer Control Programme, in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), and was attended by Minister of Health Professor Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim.
The event opened with a message of appreciation and recognition for Sudanese women, who represent a cornerstone of society and the foundation of its stability. It was held under the global slogan, “Every Story Is Unique and Every Journey Matters,” and the local slogan, “Get Screened Early… Break Free from Pain.”
In his address, the Health Minister outlined three key areas for developing treatment services. He noted that efforts to expand access to early screening and treatment began in 2017 and 2018 in cooperation with the African Development Bank, but were disrupted by the war. He affirmed the government’s determination to revive these projects and direct forthcoming support towards them.
The minister also reaffirmed the national slogan, “Despite Everything, We Must Continue,” commending the role of medical personnel and breast cancer associations, which have extended their work beyond operating theatres to community awareness campaigns.
The minister further announced plans to update the breast cancer treatment protocols that have been in use since 2010. The process will be undertaken jointly by the directorates of Health Promotion and Curative Medicine, the National Medical Supplies Fund, and the National Medicines and Poisons Board, alongside efforts to strengthen community partnerships.
For her part, Director of the Non-Communicable Diseases Department Dr. Zeinab Al-Rayah said the activities had been held simultaneously in three states, alongside extensive awareness programmes in the remaining states. She announced that the operational plan for the National Cancer Control Strategy would be launched soon, stressing that early detection contributes to the recovery of approximately 90% of cases.
