The Federal Minister of Health, Haitham Ibrahim, announced that Sudan has succeeded in reducing by nearly half the number of children who had received no vaccinations within two years, despite the conditions imposed by the war and the deterioration of the health sector.
Speaking during a side event of the 79th session of the World Health Assembly organized by Save the Children with the participation of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), the minister said Sudan had been among the countries with the highest numbers of unvaccinated children worldwide, with more than 1.2 million children, most of them in Darfur, Kordofan, Khartoum, and Al-Gezira.
He warned that declining international funding could threaten the gains achieved, calling for sustainable financing to support the humanitarian response and the development of the health system.
