Michigan (Nabaa Sudan) – Democratic candidate Abdulrahman “Abdul” El-Sayed has declared victory in the US Senate election in Michigan, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
Speaking in Detroit, El-Sayed said: “Michigan, we did it. I am deeply proud and honoured to stand before you today as the senator-elect from the great state of Michigan.”
El-Sayed’s campaign attracted widespread attention in the United States and beyond following the intense political and personal attacks he faced from Republicans and President Donald Trump himself.
Michigan is considered one of the key battleground states in US elections. El-Sayed’s declaration of victory adds to the series of Democratic gains in the midterm congressional elections.
