The UK Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, has described the findings of the United Nations Fact-Finding Mission report on El-Fashir as “harrowing.”
In a statement, Cooper underscored the urgent need for decisive international action, including the prompt initiation of international criminal investigations into mounting evidence of atrocities committed in El-Fashir, the capital of North Darfur. She stressed that accountability for perpetrators and justice for victims are essential to breaking the cycle of violence.
The Foreign Secretary further called for an immediate halt to the flow of weapons and urged thorough investigations into reports of violations of the arms embargo imposed on Darfur.
