The United Nations Secretary-General has appointed Finnish diplomat Pekka Haavisto as the new Special Envoy to Sudan, succeeding Algerian diplomat Ramtane Lamamra.
Haavisto, who has extensive experience in peace mediation and international diplomacy, will be tasked with facilitating dialogue among Sudanese parties and supporting efforts to stabilize the country amid ongoing political and humanitarian challenges.
This appointment reflects the UN’s continued commitment to engage with Sudan through high-level diplomatic channels and to support a peaceful resolution to the national crisis.
