UN Welcomes Efforts to Promote Meaningful Political Dialogue on Sudan’s Future

UN Undersecretary General

United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Peacebuilding Rosemary DiCarlo said the UN welcomes all efforts aimed at promoting meaningful political dialogue on Sudan’s future.

Speaking during a briefing to the UN Security Council in New York, DiCarlo said the Sudanese authorities have stepped up efforts to promote a national civilian dialogue, according to an Anadolu Agency correspondent.

She noted that the government is making intensive efforts to facilitate an inclusive dialogue involving all political and societal forces, while placing the suffering of the Sudanese people and their pursuit of peace at the forefront of its priorities.

On August 14, President of the Transitional Sovereign Council (TSC), General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, said a national group of Sudanese had taken the initiative to propose an independent mechanism aimed at launching an inclusive, homegrown dialogue involving all parties and placing the suffering of the Sudanese people and their right to peace among its priorities.

Al-Burhan said the group had asked the state to provide logistical, legal, political, and security guarantees to ensure the participation of all relevant stakeholders, adding that he had agreed to provide the necessary support.

He stressed that the state would neither organize the dialogue nor determine its agenda or outcomes.
