Mubarak Ardol, a leading figure in the Democratic Bloc coalition, said that the idea of a “customs dollar” constitutes an ineffective economic policy because it results in multiple exchange rates and creates distortions in the market.
He explained that granting a preferential exchange rate for the dollar for customs purposes does not necessarily lead to lower prices for consumers. Instead, it becomes an advantage for certain traders, as goods are often sold at prevailing market rates rather than based on the exchange rate used to calculate customs duties.
