Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salem, addressed the special session convened by the Human Rights Council on Friday to discuss the situation in the city of El-Obeid and its surrounding areas. He stressed that the events in El-Fasher clearly demonstrate that resolutions and statements alone mean nothing to a criminal militia that openly boasts of disregarding and defying decisions of the international community.
Ambassador Salem stated that the continued attacks carried out by the terrorist Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia against El-Obeid and its environs, including the targeting of civilian and public service facilities as well as critical infrastructure, constitute a direct continuation of the open war the militia has waged against the Sudanese state and people since its failure to seize power by force of arms.
The Foreign Minister called on the countries that requested the special session to adopt a more direct and effective approach by sending a strong and urgent message to the state sponsoring the terrorist militia, demanding that it immediately cease supplying the group with advanced military equipment and strategic drones used to bombard cities and civilian facilities.
He also renewed Sudan's call for the international community to expedite the designation of the militia as a terrorist organization, noting that it has fulfilled all the legal and practical criteria for such designation under internationally recognized definitions of terrorism and terrorist acts.
The Minister reaffirmed the Sudanese Government's openness and readiness to engage constructively with all sincere initiatives aimed at ending this proxy war, provided they are consistent with the roadmap submitted by the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) to the United Nations on March 10, 2025, and with the Sudanese Government's peace initiative submitted by the Prime Minister to the Security Council on December 22, 2025.
He explained that the initiative is based on dismantling the militia, collecting its weapons, and concentrating its forces in mutually agreed locations as a prelude to security arrangements, including a ceasefire, followed by a Sudanese-owned, Sudanese-led political process, while welcoming support and assistance from the United Nations and international and regional partners.
The Foreign Minister further affirmed that the Sudanese Government's cooperation with United Nations mechanisms, including the UN Human Rights Country Office in Sudan and the designated expert, reflects a genuine national commitment to protecting human rights rather than merely responding to external requirements. He underscored that the state's institutions and mechanisms responsible for delivering justice, ensuring redress for victims, and preventing impunity are carrying out their mandates with integrity and professionalism.
Concluding his remarks, the Foreign Minister declared that El-Obeid would remain steadfast and resilient in the face of the brutal attacks carried out by the criminal terrorist RSF militia and its sponsors.
