Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris attended the celebration of World Civil Protection Day, held under the theme: “Environmental Risk Management for a Resilient and Sustainable Future.”
Dr. Idris praised the significant and growing role of the Civil Defense Forces personnel—officers, non-commissioned officers, and soldiers—highlighting their sacrifices during the War of Dignity, including the loss of lives, caring for the wounded, and their efforts in rescue, civil protection, and emergency operations.
The event was attended by Minister of Interior and Chairman of the National Civil Defense Council, Lieutenant General (Police) Babiker Samra Mustafa; Wali (Governor) of Khartoum State, Ahmed Othman Hamza; Director-General of Police; General (Police) Amir Abdel-Moneim Fadl; and members of the council from relevant authorities.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing necessary support, including work equipment, internal and external training opportunities for Civil Defense personnel, and leveraging UN support in training and material assistance, stressing that the Civil Defense Forces are both the present and future of the nation.
The Interior Minister noted that the celebration aims to raise public awareness on protecting lives and property, stressing that civil protection tasks have become increasingly complex due to floods, environmental pollution, and disease outbreaks, which threaten the environment. He also commended the Civil Defense Forces’ sacrifices in liberated areas and their efforts in disinfection and sanitation, ensuring the safe return of citizens.
The Director of Civil Defense Forces and Secretary-General of the National Civil Defense Council emphasized that risk management has become essential in times of accelerating crises, requiring unified efforts and logistical support. He praised the forces’ courage in high-risk areas, including the refinery and fuel tanks in Port Sudan, and in recovering bodies, reaffirming the commitment to continue safeguarding the nation and its people.
The Prime Minister also visited the exhibition showcasing the Civil Defense Forces’ rescue equipment, inaugurated the Martyr Mohamed Salah Salam Hall, and watched a documentary highlighting the Civil Defense Forces’ achievements during the Battle of Dignity, including the Nile River rescue demonstrations.
