The Sea Ports Corporation (SPC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Turkish firm Argaz to build the first specialized gas berth at Suakin Port under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Saif Al-Nasr Al-Tijani; the Wali (Governor) of the Red Sea State, Lieutenant General Mustafa Mohamed Nour; the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Sudan, Fatih Yıldız; the Mayor of Suakin, Abu Mohamed Al-Amin; and several other officials.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport said the project reflects the growing partnership between Sudan and Türkiye and opens new opportunities for investment in the ports and infrastructure sectors.
The Director-General of the Sea Ports Corporation, Eng. Jeilani Mohamed Jeilani, said the project will establish Sudan's first specialized gas berth, featuring a storage capacity of 28,000 cubic meters and the ability to serve three vessels simultaneously. He noted that the facility will eliminate waiting times for gas tankers, reduce demurrage costs, ensure a stable gas supply, and support the national economy.
