Sudan and Spain Agree to Enhance Bilateral Cooperation and Reactivate Political Consultation Mechanisms

Political and International Relations Adviser to the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Dr. Amjad Farid Al-Tayeb, concluded an official visit to the Kingdom of Spain, during which he held talks with Spanish officials on strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation in the economic and humanitarian fields, as well as developments in Sudan and their implications for regional security and stability.

Dr. Amjad Farid headed the Sudanese delegation during official talks with the Spanish side, led by Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Diego Martínez and attended by officials responsible for African affairs, foreign policy, and security.

The two sides discussed prospects for expanding cooperation, particularly in the fields of the economy and humanitarian assistance, and stressed the importance of peace and stability in Sudan and their impact on the security of the Horn of Africa, the Great Lakes region, the Sahel, and the Red Sea. They also explored the role Spain could play in supporting these efforts.

The TSC President's Adviser commended Spain's supportive positions toward Sudan, reaffirming the government's desire to advance bilateral relations. The two sides agreed to activate the framework agreement signed in 2010 and to resume regular meetings of the Political Consultation Committee following the completion of the necessary arrangements.

During the visit, Dr. Amjad Farid also met the diplomatic adviser to King Felipe VI and conveyed the greetings of President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan. He expressed Sudan's appreciation for Queen Letizia's interest in the humanitarian situation in Sudan and her meeting with members of the Sudanese community.
He also met the diplomatic adviser to the Spanish Prime Minister and delivered a verbal message from Prime Minister Professor Kamil Idris to Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, expressing gratitude for Spain's support and reaffirming Sudan's commitment to strengthening cooperation.

On the humanitarian front, the TSC President's Adviser met with the Director of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation and representatives of Spanish organizations operating in Sudan, commending their efforts to support war-affected populations and reaffirming the government's commitment to facilitating their humanitarian activities.

Economically, he held meetings with Spanish business associations and companies, presenting investment and reconstruction opportunities in Sudan, particularly in the energy, infrastructure, and mining sectors.

The two sides agreed to invite the Spanish business community to visit Sudan and explore investment opportunities and participation in reconstruction projects. Dr. Amjad Farid also met members of the Sudanese community in Madrid, briefing them on developments in the country and commending their support for Sudan's unity and stability.

The TSC President's Adviser concluded his visit with a media briefing at the Sudanese mission in Madrid, where he outlined the outcomes of the visit and answered questions from Spanish media representatives on the current situation in Sudan.
