The United Nations Human Rights Office said it has documented 546 incidents of conflict-related sexual violence in Sudan since April 2023, affecting 838 victims, while noting that the actual number of violations is likely higher due to underreporting.
The Office said the violations were recorded across 16 states and included gang rape, sexual slavery, forced marriage, and human trafficking, adding that most incidents were attributed to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and allied groups.
It further noted that nearly a quarter of the documented cases involved gang rape, including one incident in which a girl was raped by at least ten men, stressing that sexual violence has been systematically used to spread terror and intimidate civilians.
