Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the US sanctions imposed on Sudan over allegations that the Sudanese Armed Forces used chemical weapons are “invalid and unlawful,” stressing that Washington has provided no credible evidence and has ignored the technical mechanisms and procedures stipulated under the Chemical Weapons Convention.
The ministry added that the sanctions are driven by “purely political motives” and do not reflect genuine concerns over preventing the use of chemical weapons. It said the move recalls previous instances in which the United States used similar allegations to pursue political objectives.
The Foreign Ministry called on Washington to honor its bilateral commitments with the Sudanese government and provide the evidence it claims to possess regarding the allegations.
