The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) announced on Monday that they had regained control of two areas in the Blue Nile Region in southeastern Sudan following military operations against an alliance of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement–North (SPLM-N).
In a statement, the Command of the Fourth Infantry Division said that, as part of its ongoing military operations, its forces had successfully liberated the areas of Maqjah and Sarkam after direct engagements with the remaining elements of the rebel militia. The statement said the operation concluded with government forces securing both locations and forcing the enemy to withdraw from the battlefield.
Sarkam is located northeast of Al-Kormuk, approximately 11 kilometres from Sali, one of the principal operational hubs in the eastern sector of the Blue Nile Region. Maqjah lies west of the Dandro military area, which is regarded as one of the most important operational centres in the central sector.
A military source told Sudan Tribune that the simultaneous operation conducted on Monday in the eastern and central sectors was aimed at expanding the security perimeter around the strategic military positions of Sali and Dandro, which are considered vital to the defence of Al-Damazin, the capital of the Blue Nile Region.
Sali is located about 150 kilometres southeast of Al-Damazin, while Dandro lies approximately 90 kilometres to the south of the regional capital.
The Sudanese Army also released video footage showing the Command of the Fourth Infantry Division in Al-Damazin receiving battlefield reports confirming the recapture of the two areas.
