The Sudanese Journalists’ Union (SJU) condemned the ongoing detention of journalist Muammar Ibrahim by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia for the fourth consecutive week, stressing that holding journalists hostage constitutes a serious violation of international law and human rights and amounts to a crime against freedom of expression.
In a statement, the SJU described such conduct as an unacceptable breach of all professional and humanitarian norms, reaffirming its firm rejection of any attempt to exploit journalists as instruments of extortion or political pressure.
The union called for the immediate and unconditional release of Muammar Ibrahim, ensuring his physical and psychological safety, and underscored the necessity of protecting journalists and enabling them to carry out their work without threat or intimidation.
