ISLAMABAD (Nabaa Sudan) – Sudan’s Interior Minister, Babiker Samra Mustafa, met on Friday with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. The two ministers discussed ways to enhance cooperation and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
Pakistan reaffirmed its support for Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity amid growing concerns that the ongoing civil war and the establishment of a rival administration could lead to the permanent division of the African nation.
The prospect of partition has raised concerns, particularly as the United Nations Security Council and the African Union have rejected the rival administration.
Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for Sudan’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
In a statement issued following the meeting, the Pakistani Foreign Minister emphasized his country’s commitment to strengthening relations with Sudan. For his part, Sudan’s Interior Minister thanked Islamabad for its support and solidarity, and expressed his government’s desire to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
It is worth noting that Sudan’s Interior Minister also met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday. The Pakistani leader expressed hope that Sudan would emerge from its crisis as a peaceful and stable country, and called for stronger bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, defence and education.
Pakistan has also provided humanitarian and medical assistance to Sudan, according to an official statement issued after Thursday’s meeting.
