Political Affairs and Foreign Relations Adviser to the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Dr. Amjad Farid, said that the ruling Al Nahyan regime in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which is involved in prolonging the war in Sudan, used its influence within the UN Security Council to block the referral of a UN report to the Sanctions Committee established under Resolution 1591, noting that the report contains evidence and documents concerning the UAE’s support for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.
Farid explained that Resolution 1591 was issued under Chapter VII of the UN Charter and empowers the Security Council to impose sanctions on parties that violate its provisions. He said the report was supposed to be presented to the Sanctions Committee, but the influence of the UAE has prevented this from happening so far.
In an interview with Sudan TV, Dr. Amjad said the obstruction coincided with ongoing efforts to abolish the sanctions regime altogether and repeal Resolution 1591, through the US proposal put forward by Massad Boulos, adviser to the US president, to expand the arms embargo to cover all of Sudan.
Dr. Amjad said the ruling regime in the UAE used its influence and leverage over some Security Council members to block the presentation of the report, which contains evidence documenting the extent of the UAE’s contribution to the shedding of Sudanese blood, the displacement of the Sudanese people and the destruction of the country.
He noted that the blocking of the report’s presentation coincided with attempts to abolish the sanctions regime associated with Resolution 1591.
Dr. Amjad pointed out that the US proposal to expand the arms embargo to cover the entire Sudan faces objections from a number of Security Council members. He explained that linking the renewal of the Sanctions Committee’s mandate to expanding the arms embargo to cover all parts of Sudan could, if the proposal is not passed, lead to the collapse of the sanctions regime associated with Resolution 1591.
Farid warned that the collapse of the sanctions regime would allow the continued supply of weapons and military equipment to the RSF militia through routes passing through Chad, Libya and elsewhere, including drones and all the instruments of destruction that the UAE has continued to supply to the militia.
Regarding the main points contained in the report, Dr. Amjad said the document includes evidence of the UAE’s involvement in supporting the RSF militia’s military operations, pointing to documentation of an air bridge operating from Al Ghayathi and Al Wathba air bases in the UAE to N’Djamena and Kufra to supply the militia with weapons and military equipment.
He added that the report also documented the UAE’s involvement in supplying the militia with Colombian mercenaries, estimated at between 1,500 and 2,000, noting that they participated in operating drones, combat operations and military planning for the militia’s attacks.
TSC President’s Adviser explained that, according to the report, the mercenaries were recruited and sent through a UAE-based company linked to the Emirati regime called Global Security Services Group, which was founded by an official in the UAE Presidential Court.
He also noted that the report documented the RSF militia’s use of armored vehicles manufactured in the UAE, which, he said, were produced in years close to 2023 and 2024 and delivered to the militia through the aforementioned air bridge.
Farid pointed out that the report also included evidence concerning a number of aircraft landing at airports used for supply operations, affirming that everything contained in the report is based on documentation and evidence that he described as “conclusive and beyond doubt.”
