Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris, speaking at Port Sudan Airport after returning from New York, hailed Sudan’s participation in recent United Nations meetings as a historic milestone in the country’s international engagement.
He expressed gratitude to President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and U.S. President Donald Trump for their sustained support of Sudan’s peace initiative. Idris also commended the TSC and Cabinet members, Armed Forces, police, volunteers, and all contributors to the “existential battle” for peace.
The Prime Minister explained that Sudan’s visit began with a traditional UN media briefing, followed by an open Security Council session where Sudan presented its peace vision, receiving positive engagement from multiple international actors. He highlighted productive meetings with the UN Secretary-General, the Security Council President, the African Group, and representatives from countries including Turkey, Egypt, Russia, China, Pakistan, Qatar, and Eritrea. These interactions reinforced international backing for Sudan’s initiative and helped promote its adoption.
Idris underscored that the “Sudanese Government Peace Initiative” is nationally owned and led by the Sudanese people, complementing broader international peace efforts. He stressed that Sudan remains a nation of peace, countering misconceptions of conflict, and noted that this is the first time since the war’s outbreak that Sudan has shifted from a reactive to a proactive role on the international stage.
Concluding, Idris described the visit as historic, marking a new phase in which Sudan asserts itself as a proactive leader in peace-building.
