Minister of Health Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim met Monday at the ministry headquarters with the Resident Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Ms. Fabrizia Falcione, to advance joint efforts to strengthen Sudan’s health system.
The talks centered on coordination for the 2026 joint plan, with a focus on mobilizing funding to restore reproductive health services and reduce maternal mortality through expanded midwifery programs.
Dr. Ibrahim said the next phase will prioritize recovery by integrating reproductive health services into primary healthcare centers and local communities nationwide.
Both sides underscored the strategic importance of developing the Midwifery Diploma program to train qualified cadres and improve maternal and newborn health outcomes.
Ms. Falcione, who brings 19 years of experience within the UN system, reaffirmed UNFPA’s commitment to supporting the Ministry of Health. She stressed continued engagement to address urgent humanitarian needs, reinforce the health system, and assist Sudanese communities in navigating the current crisis.
The meeting concluded with agreement to sustain close coordination to ensure essential health services reach beneficiaries across all states.
