State Minister at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, Mohamed Nour Abdel Daim, held a series of meetings with officials from international financial and development institutions and finance ministers participating in the 51st Annual Meetings of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group in Baku to discuss support for Sudan's economic recovery and reconstruction efforts and ways to strengthen cooperation with regional and international financing institutions.

During the meetings, the Minister stressed the importance of mobilizing international support for Sudan's post-war recovery, addressing debt challenges and arrears, and resuming development and service projects to rehabilitate infrastructure and improve basic services.

He met with IsDB Vice President for Finance Abdel-Rabb Abdous, who reaffirmed the Group's solidarity with Sudan under the exceptional circumstances facing the country and reiterated its commitment to supporting Sudan's development, reconstruction and economic recovery efforts.

The Minister outlined the scale of war-related damage affecting key sectors, including public services, health, education and energy facilities, as well as the agricultural and productive sectors. He emphasized that Sudan views the IsDB Group as a key partner in the post-war phase, particularly in light of the state's restoration of control over most states, including the capital, Khartoum.

The two sides agreed to establish a joint working group to continue technical consultations on debt rescheduling and enhancing future cooperation. They also reviewed ongoing IsDB-funded projects in Sudan, notably Al-Gadarif Water Project, expected to provide water services to nearly two million people, in addition to the Atbara and Setit Dam Project and other development initiatives.

In a separate meeting, the Minister held talks with the Regional Director of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) for North Africa, Europe and Central Asia, Noufal Telahigue, on resuming financing for agricultural projects in Sudan and arrangements for addressing and rescheduling arrears owed to the Fund.

The IFAD official affirmed that Sudan remains one of the Fund's priority countries in view of the extensive damage sustained by the agricultural sector and expressed readiness to continue coordination with the Sudanese government to restore agricultural activity, strengthen food security and improve rural livelihoods.

The Minister also met with Somalia's Minister of Finance, Bihi Iman Egeh, who expressed his country's full solidarity with Sudan and stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation and exchanging expertise in economic development, reconstruction and recovery programmes.

For his part, the State Minister called for strengthening cooperation among member states of the IsDB Group and benefiting from the initiatives and programmes offered by the Group, particularly the Recovery, Resilience and Reconstruction (RRR) Programme for crisis-affected countries.

He affirmed Sudan's aspiration to expand its development partnerships and leverage available resources and expertise to support reconstruction efforts, restore basic services and strengthen community resilience, thereby promoting stability and creating a conducive environment for the resumption of sustainable development.

The meetings formed part of Sudan's efforts to mobilize the political, economic and development support required for recovery and reconstruction and to strengthen cooperation with regional and international financing institutions in support of government efforts to overcome the effects of war and rebuild the country.
