Health Minister Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim affirmed that US sanctions imposed on Sudan will not affect the health sector, explaining that they do not cover humanitarian or health-related activities. He noted that the Ministry continues to receive support through the World Health Organization (WHO) and several international organisations.
The minister said his visit to Washington resulted in the launch of an international appeal to support the health sector, with the participation of around 40 health and humanitarian entities, and the formation of the “Sudan Alliance” committee to follow up on financial commitments and implement projects.
He pointed out that private pharmaceutical companies have resumed operations, while private hospitals continue to face challenges in rehabilitating electrical infrastructure. He announced a plan to convert dialysis centres to solar power and said the availability of essential medicines has reached around 70 percent.
Dr. Haitham also revealed that nearly 50,000 certificates have been issued in recent months to medical professionals seeking to work abroad.
