Sudan Defense Minister: RSF Was an NCP-Linked Militia and Rebelled Against Its Integration into the Army

Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Hassan Kabroun said the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) was a militia affiliated with the National Congress Party (NCP) and rebelled during the government of former Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok in opposition to its integration into the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).

In remarks to Al Arabiya, Kabroun said the Sudanese Army is advancing on all fronts and is winning the war, stressing that treating the SAF and RSF as equal parties is merely a political stratagem.

He said any amendments to the Juba Peace Agreement would be aimed at preserving Sudan’s unity, adding that the government would hold accountable anyone engaged in illegal recruitment in the name of armed movements.

The minister stressed that Sudan would not allow the emergence of parallel forces or independent militias affiliated with any political party after the war.

Regarding the Red Sea, Kabroun warned that any threat to the region would directly affect Sudan’s security and economy. He said Sudan is working to establish a national coast guard force and join the regional maritime security framework.
